Japan Travel Osaka - Hattori Open Air Japanese Farm Houses 日本民家集落博物馆 (2019 0521)

This is Japan's first open-air museum, located in one corner of Hattori Ryokuchi Park in Toyonaka City. With an area of about 36,000 m2, the museum restored 11 typical Japanese farm-houses for display, including a Nambu-Magariya house from Iwate Prefecture, in the north part of Japan, and an Amami-Takakura house from Kagoshima Prefecture, in the south part of the country. Those houses were originally built in the 17th to 19th centuries (the Edo period) and were used as dwellings up until the 1960s. Visitors can learn much about the accumulated wisdom of local life based upon individual regions' unique culture and tradition. In the museum, various events are often held, for example, lectures on individual houses, meetings for classical folk story telling, tea ceremony and hands-on sessions. It is advisable to check the event schedule of the museum.
