Sitting between the Dojima and Tosabori rivers, Nakanoshima is the center of modern commerce and government in Osaka, and the slender three-kilometer island is home to some of the city's best museums, hotels and restaurants.

In pleasant weather, take a stroll through Nakanoshima Park, which provides a peaceful refuge from the otherwise bustling city. In the evening, head to Nakanoshima Festival Tower for a magnificent view of the city.

Getting There:

From Umeda Station, take the Midosuji subway line to Yodoyabashi Station. Nakanoshima is a three-minute walk across the river.

Yodoyabashi Bridge 淀屋橋 - Suspended over the Tosabori River measure about 65 meters in length and 4 meters in width.

Prefectural Nakanoshima Library 大阪立中之島图書馆 - A stately building with three-layered stone walls and a rising sheet-copper-roofed dome, Storing ancient texts, Osaka-related documents, and business-related books. Japan's important cultural property.

Sensan-no-ki -bashi Bridge 梅檀木桥 - This was once one of the bridges suspended over the Nishiyoko Canal, used for lumber and the porcelain trade, but all that remains now is a stone monument.

Museum of Oriental Ceramics Osaka 大阪市立东陶瓷美术馆 - Is a Japanese art museum and regarded as one of the best ceramic-collections in the world.

Naniwa-bashi Bridge 难波桥 - commonly called the "Lion Bridge." It is noted for its classical lampposts. It also features grand stone steps leading to Nakanoshima Park.


Suisho-bashi Bridge 水晶桥 - Originally built as an adjustable weir for the Dojima River, Suishobashi’s present incarnation is as a pedestrian-only bridge fitted with benches and planters.

Oe Bridge 大江橋 & F&B Outlets - This bridge accommodates both pedestrians, cyclists, and motorised traffic. It’s reasonably close to the water’s surface and has bay window type, raised lookouts at either end and in the middle, and is also adorned with large lamps mounted on thick stone pillars.

Nishikihashi Bridge 錦桥 - This pedestrian-only bridge is located on the south end of Asahi Festival Hall. On the deck, you’ll find decorated fired tiles in the nishiki-e (color woodblock) style that evoke Nakanoshima’s history.
