Japan Travel Osaka - Walking Trail @Uemachi Daichi Historical Site Promenade (Seven Slopes of Tennoji Walk 天王寺七斜坡步行)(2019 0516)




Getting There:
Take Sen-Nichimae Line or Tanimachi Line and alight at Osaka Metro Tanimachi 9-chome Station (Tanimachikyuchome) 谷町九丁目駅Exit 3 and make a U-turn at the top of the stairs.




Descend down Sennichimae-dori Street



2nd Lane turn Left where you see the Shingon-Zaka 真言坂 inside that lane




Walk along Shingon-Zaka 真言坂 (up slope)>




Side door of Ikukunitama-jinja Shrine生國魂神社 難波大社 (Classical Shinto shrine built in 1580 & a venue for frequent festivals throughout the year)>




To your right you’ll see a row of small shrines on the edge of a small grass lawn lined with wooden benches, as well as a few other altars tucked off in the far corner.

Exit via main gate>




Turn right along the road> Ikutama Park 生玉公園 (Right)> 2nd Lane turn left> Reien-ji Temple 齢延寺>




Ginzan-ji Temple 銀山寺 (a small temple dating from the 16th century. Entry is only allowed on special days)>




Genshoji-zaka源聖寺坂 (Down Slope)>




 Walk until End> Turn Right to Genshoji 源聖寺 (Temple build in 1596)>




Turn Left onto Matsuyamachi-suji Street松屋町筋> a succession of temples on your left. Peer into each one as you pass> Shinko-ji Temple心光寺 (Café) (influenced by the architecture of the Taj Mahal build in 1929)>


 Cross Traffic Junction (Gakuenzaka 学園坂)>


Uemura Bunraku's Grave, Enjoin Temple (植春文乐轩墓所园成院)> Past the Mobil gas station and the Daihatsu car repair shop (大阪ダイハツ販売(株)天王寺店)> Turn Left onto the third slope Kuchinawa-zaka口縄坂碑 (Beside Shomyoji 称名寺)>
 


Zenryu-ji Temple (善龍寺) (Architecture age: Edo Bunka 7  1810 Relocation 1969, Wooden
b uilding, hongawara-buki tiled roof, entrance 2.7 m, with left and right fences) on your left>



Kuchinawa-zaka 口縄坂 (Up Slope)>


Gokokusan Taihei-ji Temple (End of Kuchinawazaka) 護國山太平>



Turn Right on 1st Lane> Follow the road> Asada Goryu's Grave麻田剛立墓所(Joshun-Ji Temple 凈春寺)> Ichigen-no-miya宗教法人一元の宮 (Church)> Following the road and Turn Right and Left onto  Tanimachi-Suji 谷町筋> Shiten-Nojimaeyuhigaoka Station 四天王寺前夕陽ヶ丘駅 Stop ID: T26 Exit 2> Walk along the Main Road (Tanimachi-Suji 谷町筋)> Turn Right into Lane>

Kiyomizu-zaka 清水坂 (Up Slope- the steepest of Tennoji’s seven slopes)>



 Turn to your right and follow the stone pavers along a narrow path lined by a thick wall of shrubbery>


Pass by a large cemetery on your right, which affords fantastic views towards Namba>


Follow the Stone paves mark towards Kiyomizu-zaka, Osaka>







 Tenjinzaka 天神坂 (Down Slope)>



This is a monument to the seven fresh springs of Tennoji that used to flow through this area in the Edo era>



Turn Right at Tenjinzaka 天神坂碑>


Follow the Stone paves mark towards Arisusan Seikoin Kiyomizudera 有栖山 清光院 清水寺



増井の清水 Fresh Springs of Tennoji (Private Property)>




Pass bright yellow house> Turn Right>


Arisusan Seikoin Kiyomizudera 有栖山 清光院 清水寺 (Ancient Buddhist temple complex with a large cemetery, natural waterfall & traditional architecture.)>


On your left, stairs lead to the cemetery that you passed by earlier from above.

Walk past the wooden building and pass through the small gate adorned with purple curtains inside the Temple


Tamade waterfall 玉出の滝 - at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, the only natural waterfall in Osaka>



Return to Tenjinzaka 天神坂碑>


Climb the Stairs>


Kanayamabiko Shrine



Yasui-jinja Shrine 安居神社 (Modest shrine marking the site of the death of an ancient warrior with an inscribed stone monument.)>


Exit to OsakaZaka逢坂の道標 (National Route 165)


逢坂の道標 (National Route 165) - the last of Tennoji’s Seven slopes but it has lost all of its Edo-era charm.>


End Journey 1 at Ebisucho Station 恵美須町駅 Stop ID: K18 for Sakaisuji Line (Shinsekai 新世界, Tsutenkaku 通天閣)

End Journey 2 at Shiten-Nojimaeyuhigaoka Station 四天王寺前夕陽ヶ丘駅 Stop ID: T26 for Tanimachi Line  (Exit 4 for Shitennoji四天王寺 本坊)

End Journey 3 at Dobutsuen-Mae Station 動物園前駅for Midosuji Line / Sakaisuji Line  Osaka Tennoji Zoo 天王寺動物園, Tennoji Park 天王寺公園
