The building was donated by voluntary Japanese residents in Taiwan at the time in 1927 to commemorate wedding of the Emperor Showa, and was designed by Matsunosuke Moriyama. This building is styled on the Chinese southern local (Fujian) building styles prevalent at the time (Minnan architecture), and it is considered a valuable piece of architecture as there are very few authentic Chinese-style buildings in Japan.
