Old malaya style architects formerly known by names such as Istana Kenangan, Istana Lembah, and Istana Tepas, was established in 1926 by Malay carpenter Haji Suffian with the assistance of his two sons, Zainal Abidin and Ismail, from Seberang Prai for the late Sultan Iskandar Shah (Marhum Kadasallah), the 30th Sultan of Perak, as a temporary residence while the construction of Istana Iskandariah was underway. Constructed entirely of hardwood, with walls made of woven bamboo strips and a roof of timber planks (belian wood) featuring a five-tiered and banana-shaped eaves. Photo taking is prohibited inside the museum.
