It was first built during the Xianping era of Emperor Zhenzong of Song (998-1003). The temple was also known as Longyin Temple because Emperor Jianwen of Ming, Zhu Yunwen, once sought refuge there, and the ancient town where it is located is named after him.

始建于宋真宗咸平年间（998-1003年）。该寺因明建文帝朱允炆曾避难隐居，又名龙隐寺，所在古镇亦由此得名。
