It is one of the seventeen ancient city gates of Chongqing, known as "nine open and eight closed," and is also the largest of them. It served as a transportation hub and important port in ancient Chongqing. Construction began in 314 BC when Qin general Zhang Yi built the city of Ba County after conquering Ba.

是重庆“九开八闭”十七座古城门之一，也是其中规模最大的一所古城门，为古代重庆交通枢纽和重要埠口。始建于公元前314年，是秦将张仪灭巴后修筑巴郡城池时所建。

The Chaotianmen Cable Car, once an important water-land transfer facility in the mountain city, is currently under reconstruction. Due to upgrades in safety regulations and changes in passenger demographics, it ceased operation in May 2007.

朝天门缆车, 曾是山城重要的水陆换乘设施复建中。因安全规范升级及客源变化，于2007年5月停运。

The Chaotianmen City Wall Ruins are located near Chaotianmen Square in Yuzhong District, Chongqing. They are mainly ancient city wall remains from the Southern Song and Ming Dynasties. They were discovered in 2015 during the construction of Raffles City. Although the historical value is very high, the main body of the site is not currently fully open to the public, and some areas are covered by pavements or buildings.

朝天门城墙遗址位于重庆市渝中区朝天门广场附近，主要是南宋和明代的古城墙遗迹，2015 年在修建来福士广场时被发现。虽然历史价值很高，但目前遗址主体并未完全对公众开放，部分区域被覆盖在路面或建筑下 。
