This is the largest mosque in Northeast China. Construction took place between the seventh year of the Tianqi reign (1627) and the ninth year of the Chongzhen reign (1636) of the Ming Dynasty; it was built in the early Qing Dynasty by Tie Kui—an ancestor of the Hui Tie family—within a Hui community.
